The Biotechnika Engineering and Technology Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS) hosted a practical seminar titled “Ethics of Using ChatGPT, Scite, Elicit, and SciSpace in the Preparation of Scientific Texts,” which brought together about 40 participants.
The event addressed current issues regarding the application of artificial intelligence tools in scientific work, academic integrity, information security, and the ethical aspects of using modern AI services in the preparation of scientific publications.
Andriy Panko—Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Senior Researcher, and Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Physicochemical Geomechanics of the F. D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloidal Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the official representative of AIPEA (International Association for Clay Research) in Ukraine. The speaker outlined the current challenges associated with the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies, drew attention to the issue of responsible use of AI tools, and emphasized the need to foster a culture of safe work practices with them.
Hanna Truba’s presentation, “From Academic Integrity to Information Security: Risks of Using Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Writing,” focused on the academic, ethical, and information risks associated with the use of generative artificial intelligence.Particular attention was paid to the specifics of using ChatGPT, Scite, Elicit, and SciSpace, as well as to issues of the reliability of scientific information, author responsibility, personal data protection, and adherence to the principles of academic integrity.
Yuriy Mykhailovych Nosenko, head of the Department of Scientific Support for Innovative Development within the Presidium of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS), also participated in the seminar, contributing to the professional discussion on the current challenges of the digital transformation of science.
The practical workshop served as a platform for constructive discussion on the possibilities and limitations of using artificial intelligence in modern scientific activity. Participants discussed the prospects for integrating AI tools into research practice, while emphasizing the need to combine technological capabilities with the principles of academic integrity, professional ethics, and information security.
