Roundtable discussion featuring researchers from the F.D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloid Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the “Biotechnika” Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine

On May 16, 2026, researchers from the Biotechnika Engineering and Technology Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and the F.D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloid Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine organized and held a roundtable discussion titled “Scientific Foundations of the Biologization and Ecologization of Agriculture.”

Roundtable discussion featuring researchers from the F.D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloid Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the “Biotechnika” Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine

On May 16, 2026, researchers from the “Biotechnika” Engineering and Technology Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and the F.D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloid Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine organized and held a roundtable discussion titled “Scientific Foundations of the Biologization and Ecologization of Agriculture.”
The roundtable was opened by V.P. Yaroshevsky, Ph.D., Director of the “Biotechnika” Engineering and Technology Institute of the NAAS, and V.A. Prokopenko, Dr. of Technical Sciences, Professor, Director of the F.D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloid Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine.
During the event, the research results of both institutions dedicated to this issue were reviewed and discussed. Representing the ITI “Biotechnika” of the NAAS were: O.I. Onishchenko, Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Research Department of Biological Technologies and Innovation Support, who presented the report “Biocontrol – the Foundation of Ecological Agriculture: Theory and Practice”; I.M. Bespalov, Ph.D. in Engineering, Head of the Research Sector for Technological Processes and Equipment for the Industrial Production of Microbiological Preparations, with a presentation titled “Conceptual Foundations for the Development of Biologically-Based Technologies for the Cultivation of Major Crops.”
The F.D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloid Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine presented a report by S.M. Dibkova, Head of the Department of Colloidal Technology of Natural Systems, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Senior Researcher, titled “Metal Nanoparticles as Effective Agrotechnical Means of Plant Protection.”

Based on the results of the discussion, it was determined that the issues highlighted in the reports, in our opinion, point to the urgent need to develop and implement new biological technologies, which are perhaps the only measure capable of halting the further decline in soil fertility, stabilizing production systems, reducing dependence on technological factors, and, thus, enhance the competitiveness of organic agricultural production in domestic and international food markets. General requirements for organic production include the use of technologies that comply with legislation governing organic production, distribution, and labeling of organic products.

The potential of using metal nanoparticles as effective agrotechnical plant protection agents is also demonstrated. Nanotechnology is a promising way to increase crop production, enhance crop resilience, and reduce environmental pollution. Nanotechnology, which involves the use of nanomaterials as carriers, has a wide range of applications in plant cultivation and agricultural crop production, including in nanofertilizers, nanopesticides, nanosensors, and nanobiotechnologies.

Based on the results of the roundtable, a number of proposals were formulated regarding further cooperation between the Engineering and Technology Institute “Biotechnika” of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and the F.D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloid Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The event was attended by 57 participants.
